Leningrad was one of the main objectives for Operation Barbarossa and the defeat of the Soviet Union, because it was the first city with an important communications net in the north of the country. The rough woods surrounding the city were hell for Panzer troops, who had to face not only the thickness but the knowledge of the ground by the Russians who got in trouble the German war machine.
